Big Cats in Belleville (kind of) – The Artsology Blog

I was out for a walk in my Belleville neighborhood the other day when I noticed this stained and repaired front stoop to a house. The stained shape (below left) made me immediately think of a big cat jumping out to attack, and specifically made me think of a mosaic mural that I saw in Santa Fe a few years ago, bottom right. The mural is titled “Duality and the Fifth Sun,” by Samuel Leyba, and is a mosaic mural made with 1 inch Venetian glass tiles. Leyba created it on a PNM (Public Service Company of New Mexico) substation at the northeast corner of Paseo de Peralta and Guadalupe, with the help of over 20 art students … we featured it in a blog post a few years ago.

I’m sure this stain on the Belleville front stoop is just an accidental shape … but do you see the visual association that I did?

a wall stain that looks like a leaping big cat
