DEXTER, MI — Bring your kids, grab some hot cocoa and s’mores and enjoy the winter weather at the Dexter Ice Fest on Saturday.
The attractions from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 18 in Dexter Monument Park include 33 ice sculptures by Ice Dreams Sculptures, three live demos, snowmen and a kids zone, featuring Elsa from “Frozen” and face painting.
All of these attractions are made possible through 40 sponsors, said Lisa Teahen, district manager of Aubree’s Pizzeria and Grill.
Aubree’s Pizzeria and Grill in Dexter is taking the lead in organizing this first-ever ice festival in town, Teahen said.
“I feel that a lot of people haven’t visited the downtown area and I think that this would bring a lot of foot traffic because the town is awesome,” Teahen said.
Teahen has been a part of the community in the restaurant business for nine years and wanted to bring family fun into the area, she said. She enlisted the help of the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce to get the event started, along with contacting Ice Dreams Sculptures, which is used in the popular Plymouth Ice Festival each year.
“What we’re trying to do is bring a little bit of a winter fest to the downtown area because there’s not much going on during the winter months in Dexter,” Teahen said.
